The Bengals elevated only Russ Yeast this week and called up zero wide receivers from the practice squad, which is as clear a signal as you'll get that Chase and Higgins expect to play today in Miami against an 0-4 Dolphins team. Kickoff is at 1 PM ET on FOX.

THE GAME
We Gave That Jacksonville Game Away

Bengals vs Jaguars

Jacksonville came into Paycor and left with a 22-17 win, and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. Burrow went 39-of-54 for 428 yards. Tee Higgins caught 11 passes for 157 yards before going down. We outgained them and still lost. The Bengals ran it 15 times for 23 yards. Two Burrow interceptions, including a red zone pick when we needed a touchdown in the fourth quarter. We were 18 inches from a first down on the final drive.

Separately, Burrow reached 2,000 career completions on Sunday in 81 games, tying Patrick Mahomes as the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach the milestone.

THE OFFENSE
The Run Game Needs Answers, and Coaches Know It

Joe Burrow

Center Ted Karras called it "a very honest and brutal Monday." Chase Brown finished the Jacksonville game with 10 yards on nine carries. Samaje Perine added seven on three. Dan Pitcher called it "a whole gamut of issues" and said "the way we played the game yesterday isn't sustainable for long-term success." The Bengals have run for 297 yards through four games, third-worst through four games in Burrow's seven seasons here, and Sunday's 23-yard output was the worst of Taylor's tenure.

Burrow said after the game he wanted to throw more, then walked it back Wednesday with a wide smile: "I might have been a little emotional after the game." The actual position: balance matters, the run game wasn't good enough, and the under-center offense stays in the playbook. The Bengals rank 31st in rushing attempts per game (20.8) and 31st in rushing yards per game (74.3), and under-center plays are averaging 3.3 yards per play against 5.1 in shotgun. Burrow stayed late after Wednesday's practice working on mechanics.

THE INJURIES
Chase and Higgins Both Questionable, But the Roster Move Tells the Story

Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins

Chase practiced in full Friday after sitting out Wednesday entirely, a meaningful step through the NFL's five-stage concussion protocol. He still needs to be cleared Saturday to play Sunday. Higgins, dealing with an adductor and neck, did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but was out in full on Friday. Taylor called both of them questionable. As Paul Dehner Jr. noted Saturday, "The fact they did not call up a WR from the PS certainly opens the door for Ja'Marr Chase AND Tee Higgins to play tomorrow."

Bryan Cook practiced in full Friday and is listed questionable after sitting out Wednesday entirely. Cook on why he won't play if he isn't right: "I feel if I'm not being who they need me to be on the team, on the field, I'm hurting my teammates." He also pointed out that some defensive mistakes last week might not have happened with him available. Jordan Battle was upgraded to full Thursday after being limited most of the last two weeks. Kyle Dugger is out.

THE RECEIVERS
Dohnte Meyers Is Ready

Dohnte Meyers

Meyers finished Sunday with seven catches for 82 yards, career highs in both, and forced six missed tackles on 11 touches, the highest forced missed tackle rate among all wide receivers with multiple catches this season. Taylor compared him directly to Chase on Wednesday: "In terms of the make-miss burst to go get big plays, he's as close to Ja'Marr as we've probably had." If Chase and Higgins can't go, Meyers and Mitch Tinsley start, with Colbie Young and Gesicki filling in behind them.

Young is questionable with a knee injury but practiced in at least a limited capacity all week. Taylor on the rookie: "He's really physical. He hasn't had a lot of opportunities in the pass game, but he's been where we need him to be."
