Kickoff is five hours away, and we're going in banged up: Bryan Cook and Dalton Risner both game-time decisions, Kyle Dugger out, and Bralyn Lux and Russ Yeast elevated from the practice squad to patch the secondary. Trevor Lawrence has won ten of his last eleven regular-season games. Burrow has never lost to him.

THE STEELERS
We Gave It Away in All Three Phases

Final score 30-27. Burrow was 28-of-37 for 282 yards and three touchdowns, the offense moved the ball, Chase and Higgins were both outstanding, and we still lost. Ten of Pittsburgh's points came directly off special teams blunders: Simmons called a punt block attempt while leading 20-17, Cedric Johnson got too close and drew the roughing flag, and that drive ended in a Rodgers-to-Metcalf touchdown. Then Ke'Shawn Williams muffed a punt, PJ Jules tried to scoop-and-score instead of fall on it, and Pittsburgh had first-and-goal at the 14. Zac Taylor on the ten points: "That's tough." Then Burrow fumbled at the Pittsburgh 38 with 53 seconds left, McPherson never got his shot, game over. "All three phases share in that," Taylor said.
THE OFFENSE
Burrow on Late-Game Situations: "There's No Place I'd Rather Be"

After the fumble became a national talking point, Burrow didn't flinch. "I feel like I'm pretty good in those moments. There's no place I'd rather be. I want it in my hands when you put the game on the line." Since 2021, he ranks tied fourth among NFL quarterbacks in dropback EPA/play when trailing with fewer than eight minutes in regulation, and his 107.7 passer rating in those situations ranks first.
The 1-34 stat that circulated this week, Burrow's record when trailing at any point in the final eight minutes, is ugly. But nine of those 34 losses came when the Bengals trailed by double digits in the fourth quarter. Two others came when they didn't trail until Harrison Butker hit game-winners at or after the gun. Burrow is 18-for-27 when he has the ball with less than four minutes left and a chance to tie or take the lead. Mike Gesicki on the 1-34 stat: "That's such a dumb stat. He's the best quarterback in the world. I saw the stat and was like, 'that's stupid' and kept scrolling." He also has 11 career game-winning drives.
Through three games, Burrow has hit 73 of 103 passes (70.9%) for 743 yards, six touchdowns, one interception, and a 106.6 passer rating. In the first three weeks of 2024, when he led the NFL in touchdowns and yards per game, he posted a 107.5 passer rating on the same 70.9% completion rate. He also said the offense has been efficient but not explosive, "we could be a lot better," and that finding bigger plays is the priority going into Jacksonville.
Amarius Mims Has Zero Pressures Allowed in 111 Pass-Blocking Snaps
He didn't allow T.J. Watt a single pressure on 29 pass-rush snaps Sunday. It was only the sixth time in Watt's career he was held without a pressure, and just the fourth when he had at least 29 snaps to work with. PFF ranks Mims the NFL's second-best pass-blocking right tackle behind Lane Johnson. Offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher: "There's a fraction of the players in this league that truly can be special, and he is in that fraction."
JA'MARR CHASE
Ja'Marr Chase Reaches 7,000 Receiving Yards Faster Than Jerry Rice and Randy Moss

Nine catches, 98 yards, a touchdown on 12 targets in Pittsburgh. Chase entered needing 80 yards to hit 7,000 career receiving yards and cleared it in his 81st game, passing Torry Holt, Jerry Rice, and Randy Moss in the process. Only Lance Alworth, Julio Jones, and Justin Jefferson got there faster. He's 26 years old. With 80 yards today against Jacksonville, he passes Isaac Curtis for third place on the Bengals' all-time receiving yards list.
SPECIAL TEAMS
McPherson Wins AFC Special Teams Player of the Month
Eight field goals, eight PATs, 32 points scored in September. His five field goals from 50 yards or more are the most in a single month in Bengals history. He's made 20 consecutive field goal attempts dating back to Week 11 of last season, second-longest in team history behind Shayne Graham's 21-game run in 2007. The Pittsburgh game cost us ten points on special teams. McPherson wasn't one of them.
THE INJURY REPORT
Injury Report Heading Into Sunday
Cook (ankle) was limited all three days and is questionable. Dugger (quad) didn't practice all week and is out, which means if Cook can't go, Jordan Battle and Russ Yeast are your starting safeties. Slot corner Jalen Davis was placed on IR, pushing Dax Hill inside and sliding DJ Ivey and Tacario Davis outside. DJ Turner (ankle) is playing. Risner (knee) is questionable; if he can't go, Jalen Rivers gets the start at right guard. B.J. Hill (Achilles) practiced Friday for the first time all week and is questionable. Colbie Young (knee) is out. The Bengals elevated Bralyn Lux and Yeast from the practice squad Saturday. Zac Taylor all week: "We pride ourselves in being problem solvers.
